The exposed portion of the barrel shows some rust freckling. The cylinder, cylinder lock and gas plug show finish loss. The receiver shows brown spots from age. The inside of the action has some old grease that will need to be cleaned off and replaced. The barrel bands have been covered over with stock finish. The action is smooth, the markings are clear, and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Good+ condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in October 1944 and is fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel dated August 1944, a desirable pairing that is fully consistent with wartime production. Designed by John C. Garand, the M1 Garand served as the standard U.S. service rifle during World War II, valued for its semi-automatic operation and battlefield reliability. George S. Patton famously described it as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” highlighting its significance in military history. The close barrel-to-receiver dates suggest this rifle likely retains a correct wartime configuration.

The stock is marked “AA” on the pommel, indicating possible refurbishment at Augusta Arsenal, along with a “C” and broad arrow marking that suggest potential Canadian service or inspection. These markings add an additional layer of post-war history and international use. This example also includes an M1 bayonet marked “AFH U.S.”, further enhancing its historical appeal as a paired accessory. Overall, this rifle represents a compelling WWII-era Garand with strong period-correct features and interesting post-service markings.
