The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows marks from storage, with compressions, surface level lines, scratches and small chips. There are no cracks. The butt plate has lost some of its finish and shows rub wear on the edges. The door spring is strong. Overall the wood is in about Good-Good+ condition.

Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is Very well defined. There is barely visible pitting/erosion in the grooves throughout the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1.5 and a throat of 1. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish has turned brown/green from age mainly on the receiver. There is finish thinning scattered throughout. The gas tube shows scratches and marks. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very minor rub wear. The action is smooth. The markings are mostly clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Good+Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a canvas sling, and CMP paperwork.
Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand made in May 1941 falls into the very early production range, as mass issue of the rifle to U.S. forces had only just begun. By mid-1941, the M1 was being distributed more widely to the Army, replacing the M1903 Springfield as the standard service rifle. This example retains the original Springfield barrel dated 4-1941. The barrel is still in surprisingly good shape rating 9/10. This rifle was sold as CMP service grade in 2017 and includes a lock bar style rear sight, a less common addition to these rifles.
The M1 Garand was famously praised by General George S. Patton, who called it “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, the semi-automatic design gave American troops a distinct firepower advantage over enemy forces still armed largely with bolt-action rifles. With over 5.4 million produced during World War II, the Garand became an iconic U.S. service rifle. This example, with its early receiver, original barrel, lock bar sight and CMP paperwork, represents a well preserved time piece showcasing the beginning of production.
