Our Assessment: This Inland M1 Carbine was originally manufactured between late 1943 and early 1944 and is built on an SG-marked receiver produced by Saginaw Steering Gear Division. It is fitted with a correct Inland Division barrel dated December 1943, reflecting the close cooperation between the various prime contractors that produced the M1 Carbine during World War II. The lightweight, fast-handling M1 Carbine became one of the most successful U.S. military firearms of the war, prized for its reliability and ease of carry by officers, paratroopers, and support troops serving in every theater of combat.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this rifle is its stock, which tells the story of decades of military service and multiple arsenal inspections. The stock is marked “TRIMBLE TN”, identifying it as a product of the Trimble Nursery & Furniture Company made for National Postal Meter Company, and bears the “NPM FJA” cartouche with crossed ordnance wheel, signifying acceptance by Army inspector Colonel Frank J. Atwood. It also carries the “-U-” inspection mark of Underwood and the “O.G.E.K.” rebuild stamp from Ogden Arsenal, representing inspection under Colonel Elmer Keith. Together, these markings indicate a rifle that saw a long military life, passing through multiple rebuild and inspection programs while remaining a serviceable and dependable U.S. military arm.
