Bore Condition: The grooves are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is fouling in the grooves which should clean up a bit. There is no erosion.
In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates a 9 out of 10.
Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The barrel and bolt release lever show a plum color. The metal shows a few light handling marks. The screw heads are intact. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action function correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes in a wooden display crate. It also comes with a padded rifle sleeve, leather sling, dual stripper clip pouch, oiler, paperwork from Miltech and a bayonet & scabbard.
The bayonet is a Yugoslavian Model 1948 bayonet which is based on the German K98 bayonet. The bayonet mounts the rifle properly.
Our Assessment: This WWII N@zi German K98 was made at the Mauser Oberndorf factory in Germany back in 1944. It has since been restored by Miltech of Los Altos, CA. The rifle was completely refinsihed during the restoration. Many of the markings were also restamped during the restoration. The markings include matching part numbers and German eagles. The rifle looks great and has a strong bore. The rifle comes with a wooden display crate and accessories. This is a nice K98 to add to your WWII or Military collection.
