Our Assessment: The Walther P38 was developed as the successor to the P08 Luger, designed to provide the German military with a reliable, cost-effective, and efficient service pistol. Introduced in 1938, the P38 incorporated a double-action/single-action trigger system and an innovative locking block barrel design, which influenced later military handguns worldwide.
This particular pistol was manufactured in 1941 by Walther, as indicated by the “ac 41” slide marking. It retains a significant portion of its original wartime finish and has clear German military acceptance markings, making it an excellent piece for collectors of World War II firearms. The Walther-produced P38s are among the most desirable variants due to their early-war production and historical significance.
For collectors, this P38 represents an iconic German sidearm that saw service throughout World War II. It is a prime candidate for any military arms collection and would also make for an enjoyable shooter with its solid double-action trigger and durable design.
