Our Assessment: The DWM P.08 Luger is one of the most iconic military pistols of the early twentieth century, designed by Georg Luger and adopted by the German military prior to the First World War. Produced by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken, early dated examples such as this 1910 pistol represent prewar production with imperial proofing and classic craftsmanship. The P.08 utilizes the distinctive toggle locking system, offering precise machining and a smooth shooting experience that set it apart from contemporaries. Chambered in 9mm Luger, the cartridge introduced in 1902, the platform became one of the most widely adopted handgun calibers in the world.
This example shows a mix of matching and non-matching components and retains about 90 percent of its refinished blue finish with visible handling wear, scattered scratches, thinning, and areas of corrosion pitting along with patina across the receiver. The wood grip panels show moderate wear with scratches, compression marks, and a chip beneath the safety, rating in Good condition overall. The bore appears semi bright with defined rifling along with light erosion and pitting, rating 6 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly and the pistol includes one aluminum floorplate 8 round magazine. Overall, this pistol presents as an early DWM Luger from pre-World War One production with signs of service, refurbishment, and mixed components.
