Markings: The left side of the trigger, sideplate, sear, bar safety, takedown lever, extractor, back of the rear toggle link, the top of the front toggle link, left of the breech-block, left of the striker, and the slide-stop are each marked “33”. The rear toggle is marked with a script “DWM”. The front of the frame under the barrel and the underside of the barrel are marked “133 / e”. The top of the barrel extension at the chamber is marked “1918” and the left is marked “133”. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with three crowned script characters and an eagle, the eagle is also marked on the top-right of the barrel and the left of the breech block. The bottom of the barrel is marked “133 / e / 8,83”. The left side of the frame at the safety is marked “GESICHERT”. The bottom of both magazines are marked “133 / e”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade dovetailed to a serrated base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch in the top of the rear toggle link.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut. The grips have light to moderate handling marks. There are light scratches. The checkering is worn smooth in some areas, but is generally well defined. A few of the checkering peaks have chipped off. There are no cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued, Small Parts Strawed

Finish Originality: Original / All Serialized Parts Match

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The rifling is worn. There is light erosion in the bore. There is faint pitting in the bore. There is light fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates at a 5 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. The action shows operation wear. The finish is thinning on the leading edges. The strawed parts have mostly muted or worn to white. There are scratches and oxidization throughout. Most worn areas show discoloration from oxidation. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment:  The Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken P.08 Luger is one of the most iconic military pistols ever produced, serving as the standard German sidearm through the First World War and continuing in service well into the Second World War. Designed by Georg Luger, the pistol’s distinctive toggle-lock action and superb craftsmanship made it one of the most recognizable handguns of the 20th century. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, the P.08 became synonymous with Imperial German military service and remains highly sought after by collectors today.

This 1918 DWM example presents in good overall condition and retains a remarkable degree of originality. The pistol is matching throughout, including both magazines, a highly desirable feature for collectors of military Lugers. The original blued finish remains largely intact, while the strawed small parts have naturally faded with age and use. The grips show honest handling wear but remain solid and attractive. The bore is semi-bright with worn rifling, light erosion, and faint pitting, consistent with its 5/10 rating. Included accessories include two matching magazines, a leather holster, and a takedown tool, making this a particularly appealing package. Altogether, this Imperial German P.08 represents a historically significant World War I service pistol with matching serialized components and desirable accompanying accessories.
