Make: DWM

Model: P.08 Luger

Serial Number: 9646k

Year of Manufacture: 1916

Caliber: 9mm Luger

Action Type: Toggle Type Striker-Fired Semi-Auto, Removable Magazine

Barrel Length: 4″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade dovetailed to a serrated base at the muzzle. The rear sight is a “V”-notch integral to the rear toggle link.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood panels. The inside of each panel is marked “46”. The left panel has a small loss at the top-rear corner beneath the safety lever. The grips otherwise show even light handling wear with some scattered small nicks. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue & Strawed

Finish Originality: Refinished. Numbered parts match.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. There is scattered erosion and stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 6-7 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 92% of its current metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There are a few spots of surface oxidation, most notable in the frontstrap. There is wear on the raised portion of the sideplate. There are a few small scuffs and scratches. There are infrequent small marks under the finish. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good-plus condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 8-round tin-plated magazine with serial-matching wood floorplate.

Our Assessment: The Luger was adopted by the German Army in 1908 and was so reliable and well liked that it was still being made and issued to German troops well after the P38 was adopted by the army in 1938. The largest percentage of Lugers were made by DWM, which became Mauser in 1930. This is a Luger pistol which was produced during the Great War in 1916. The pistol has been refinished, so it looks good for its age, and retains serial-matching parts including the grips and magazine. For fans of the Luger, this pistol will make a neat addition to a collection. It should also still make for a fun shooter. Please see our photos and good luck!
