Our Assessment: The U.S. Model of 1917 rifle, also known as the “Enfield,” was manufactured by three American companies—Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone—during World War I. This rifle design was based on the British Pattern 1914 and was adapted to fire the U.S. standard .30-06 cartridge. It quickly became a critical component of U.S. military forces during the war and remained in service into World War II.
This Eddystone Model 1917 features an arsenal-replaced Springfield barrel dated 1942, indicating post-World War I service and likely refurbishment before or during World War II. The rifle retains strong military characteristics with a solid bore, sharp markings, and a parkerized finish typical of U.S. rebuilds. Its two-piece walnut stock with grasping grooves adds classic appeal for collectors.
With its historical significance, rugged design, and excellent shooting capability in .30-06, this rifle will appeal to collectors of U.S. military arms, WWI/WWII reenactors, and marksmen alike. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
