Our Assessment: The Russian M1895 Nagant revolver is a seven-shot, gas-seal revolver developed by Belgian firearms designers Émile and Léon Nagant and adopted by the Russian Empire in 1895. Chambered in 7.62×38mmR, the Nagant revolver is distinctive for its unique gas-seal system, where the cylinder moves forward to seal the gap between the barrel and cylinder upon firing. This design improves muzzle velocity and reduces the escape of gases, enhancing the revolver’s performance.
The M1895 Nagant saw extensive use through the Russian Empire, Soviet Union, and various other conflicts throughout the 20th century, including both World Wars. Known for its robustness and reliability, it remained in service for several decades. One interesting aspect of the Nagant revolver is its ability to be silenced effectively due to its gas-seal mechanism, a rare feature for a revolver. This historical firearm holds significant interest for collectors due to its unique engineering and storied service history. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – R.E.
