Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “Super-X Model 1.” The barrel is marked “WINCHESTER SUPER-X MODEL / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / 12 GA. 2 3/4 IN. CHAMBER IMPROVED CYLINDER.” The serial number “M88884” is stamped on the left side of the receiver.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a metallic bead mounted to the ventilated rib. The top of the rib and receiver is serrated to reduce glare while aiming.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is in a 2 piece wood configuration featuring a fluted raised comb, ventilated rubber buttpad, checkered and capped semi pistol grip, and a checkered forend. The LOP is 15” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are a few very light scratches present, but there are no chips or cracks. The stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows very light operational wear. There are some light scratches present on the barrel and receiver. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Super-X Model 1 was introduced in the 1970s as a premium semi-automatic shotgun designed to compete with the Remington 1100. It features high-quality construction with an all-steel receiver and smooth gas-operated action, making it one of the most durable semi-autos of its era.

The Super-X Model 1 has gained a reputation for being one of the finest semi-automatic shotguns ever made by Winchester.
