Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade and is dovetailed to a hooded, serrated, and ramped base. The rear sight is a spring leaf with aperture insert with elevator dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved for scope rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth walnut, banded forend, capped semi pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and crescent steel buttplate. The LOP is 13 1/4″ from trigger to buttplate. There are sling mounts installed. There is light handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is little fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is light handling wear. There are light scratches and a few spots of discoloration in the bluing. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 9422 was introduced in 1972 as a premium rimfire lever action combining traditional Winchester styling with a modern solid-top receiver, scope grooves, and takedown construction. The 9422M variation was chambered specifically for .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, while the upgraded XTR line received higher-grade walnut furniture and enhanced finish. For 1985, Winchester introduced the XTR Classic in both standard and Magnum chamberings. This distinctive variation used a 22 1/2″ barrel, smooth pistol-grip walnut stock, extended forend, fluted comb, crescent steel buttplate, and curved finger lever. Serial number F543817 falls squarely within 1985 production, between the documented beginning serial number F539306 and year-end number F550843.
This 1985 Model 9422M XTR Classic remains in Excellent condition, retaining about 97% of its original blue finish with only light handling wear, minor scratches, and a few small areas of discoloration. The smooth walnut furniture likewise remains in Excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The bright .22 WMR bore retains sharp rifling with no observed erosion and only minimal fouling and rates 9.5/10. The action functions correctly. With its 22 1/2″ barrel, crescent steel buttplate, fluted walnut stock, Magnum chambering, and limited-production XTR Classic configuration, this is a particularly attractive variation of Winchester’s highly regarded Model 9422 rimfire lever action.
