Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M -.22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel is marked with “WP”. The bottom of the frame and lever assembly are marked “F705365”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a hooded, serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “U” notch elevator style sight with a white triangle aiming reference dovetailed to the rear of the barrel; the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation. The top of the receiver is grooved for mounting an optic (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered black plastic Winchester buttplate. There are sling studs in the belly and the bottom of the forend. The stocks have a few light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear with well defined checkering. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly in scattered minor oxidation on the receiver and lever. The finish is thinning at some edges and there are a few scattered minor marks. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422, based, of course, on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The 9422M is chambered for the more powerful .22 Magnum cartridge, making it suitable for longer shots and larger game than the .22 LR. This example shows some signs of use, but retains a great bore and strong mechanics. This would be a great rifle for taking care of all kinds of varmint as well as being a nice piece to add to a Winchester collection. Please see our pictures and good luck!
