Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422 -.22 S-L-L.R. / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel is marked with “WP”, found again on the top-front of the receiver. The bottom of the frame and lever assembly are marked “F240043”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a hooded, serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “U” notch elevator style sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel; the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation. The top of the receiver is grooved with Weaver rings holding a Weaver K4-E 4x scope with crosshair reticle. The scope has some light wear in the body with fairly clear glass.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered black plastic Winchester buttplate. The stocks have a few light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear with well defined checkering. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is some light wear on the left of the barrel between the bands. There are patches of scraping on the right receiver flat and the left of the barrel band. There are a few other spots of more minor finish wear and light handling marks. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422, based, of course, on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The 9422 is chambered for the .22 short, long, or long rifle caliber, making for a fun little plinker or pest control gun. This 9422 is in Very Good-plus condition, showing signs of light and responsible use. The rifle is also equipped with a Weaver 4x scope. This would be a great rifle for taking care of all kinds of varmint as well as being a nice piece to add to a Winchester collection. Please see our pictures and good luck!
