Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Winchester Model 94 Cal 38-55 Win/ Made in New Haven CT USA, Winchester Proof Steel”. The right side of the barrel is marked “Winchester Trademarks Licensed from Olin Corp”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a spring leaf U notch with elevator dovetailed into the barrel. There is a peep sight installed on the tang. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece checkered walnut, capped forend, semi pistol grip, straight comb, and crescent steel buttplate. The LOP is 13 1/2″ from trigger to buttplate. There is some light handling and box wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is very minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are scattered minor scratches on the receiver and barrel. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. The tang safety and rebounding hammer work as intended. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 94 Legacy in .38-55 WCF is an attractive late New Haven production lever-action rifle, manufactured circa 2003–2006. The Legacy configuration pairs classic Model 94 handling with upgraded traditional features, including a 26″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, checkered walnut furniture, semi-pistol grip stock, capped forend, and crescent steel buttplate. Chambered in .38-55 WCF, this rifle has strong appeal for lever-action enthusiasts, hunters, and collectors who appreciate Winchester’s historic chamberings and long-barreled sporting rifle configurations.
Condition is a clear strength of this example. The rifle retains approximately 97% of its original blue finish, with only scattered minor scratches on the receiver and barrel and light operational wear. The markings are clear, the screw heads remain sharp, and the bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only very minor fouling, rating 9.5/10 in the writer’s opinion. The checkered walnut stocks are also in Excellent condition, showing only light handling and box wear with no chips or cracks. The installed tang peep sight is a desirable addition, while the drilled and tapped receiver provides further optics flexibility.
Overall, this Winchester 94 Legacy is a well-preserved and desirable rifle that combines traditional Winchester styling, a classic .38-55 chambering, and excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The crisp trigger, properly functioning tang safety and rebounding hammer, excellent bore, and included box all contribute positively to its appeal. While it has not been test-fired and should be cleaned or inspected to the buyer’s standards, this rifle presents as a high-condition example suitable for both collection and sporting use.
