Barrel Length: 26?
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade set in a dovetail on the octagonal barrel at the muzzle. The rear sight is a “U” notch leaf and elevator dovetailed to the barrel. The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled in to places on the left for a receiver sight (not included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with beautiful figuring, capped forearm, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered metal butt plate. There is a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The LOP measures 13.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate, which shows erosion along the left edge. The stocks rate in Excellent overall condition. There are only a few minor handling marks but no cracks of chips.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore except for what might be a faint patch a few inches from the muzzle at the bottom but it’s too faint to tell. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10 for C&R.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some minor operation wear on the lever and hammer. The trigger has taken a plum hue. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are sharp. There is a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. Overall, the rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. The hammer has a half cock safety. The lever safety is present and functional. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: The Model 1894 has been referred to as the “ultimate lever-action design” by firearms historians such as R. L. Wilson and Hal Herring. The Model 1894 is the rifle credited with the name “Winchester” being used to refer to all rifles of this type and was the first commercial sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units. This is a Model 94 Classic with a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver and a 26” bore and has a beautiful bore with deep rifling. This one’s an absolute beauty! Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
