Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 94 Big Bore Carbine is an early 1980s production lever-action rifle chambered in the relatively uncommon .307 Winchester cartridge. Built on the strengthened Big Bore 94 platform, it features a 20″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, checkered walnut stocks, banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and orange Winchester buttpad. The rifle retains a traditional iron sight setup with a blade front sight and folding U-notch Williams rear sight, while the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled for a receiver sight, providing additional flexibility for optics or aperture sight use.
Condition is Excellent overall, with the rifle retaining about 98% of its original blue finish. The metal shows only minor handling and box wear, while the screw heads remain sharp and markings are clear throughout. The walnut stock set is also in Excellent condition, showing light handling marks and no chips or cracks. Overall, the rifle presents as a very clean and lightly handled example, likely with limited use beyond storage or inspection, and it retains strong visual and mechanical integrity.
The bore is excellent, remaining bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion, with only minor fouling present. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, and the trigger pull is described as crisp, though the rifle has not been test fired by us. As with any used firearm, a thorough cleaning and inspection are recommended before use. Overall, this is a highly desirable Winchester Model 94 Big Bore in the uncommon .307 Winchester chambering, offering excellent bore condition, near-new cosmetic presentation, factory box inclusion, and strong collector and field appeal.
