Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Sporter has long been regarded as one of the defining American bolt action hunting rifles, and by 1967 it was well established as a benchmark for fit, function, and field reliability. This example falls within the post 1964 push feed production era and features a jeweled bolt, hinged floorplate, and classic 22 inch sporting barrel. Marked with Winchester Proof Steel and proper factory roll marks, the rifle retains approximately 90 percent of its original blued finish, showing light handling wear, minor scratches, and a few light spots of corrosion, with sharp screw heads and clear markings throughout. Overall, it presents in Very Good condition with the honest character of a well kept sporting arm.

Chambered in .270 Winchester, introduced in 1925 and popularized by writers such as Jack O’Connor, this cartridge became one of the most respected big game rounds in North America. Known for its flat trajectory and effective performance on deer and similar sized game, the .270 Win helped cement the Model 70’s place in American hunting culture. The bore on this rifle is bright with sharp rifling, free from erosion and showing only minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, reflecting strong internal condition.

The one piece Monte Carlo press checkered walnut stock features a blued metal capped semi pistol grip, black plastic buttplate, and sling studs with rings installed front and rear. The wood shows scattered scratches and compression dents consistent with normal field use but remains free of cracks or chips, rating in Good to Very Good condition. The rifle is equipped with a Bushnell Banner 3-9×40 scope, though functionality cannot be guaranteed. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, and the three position safety operates as designed. This 1967 Winchester Model 70 Sporter stands as a representative example of a classic American hunting rifle from the golden age of postwar sporting arms.
