Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 has been one of America’s benchmark sporting bolt-action rifles since its introduction in the 1930s, and the Featherweight configuration became especially well regarded for combining the Model 70 action with a trimmer stock and lighter hunting profile. Modern Featherweights returned to the desirable pre-’64-style controlled-round-feed system with the full-length claw extractor and three-position safety. Of particular interest here is the 7×57 Mauser chambering: Winchester offered the 7×57 Featherweight as a 2013 SHOT Show Special, making it a considerably less common and limited production variation than the standard-production .270, .30-06, and .308 chamberings.
This example, serial number 35CZX04348, retains about 99% of its original blue finish and remains in Excellent – Like New condition, with an excellent walnut Featherweight stock, matching bolt, 10/10 bore, properly functioning action, and its factory box and cable lock. The 7×57 Mauser is an especially fitting chambering for the classic Model 70, offering both substantial sporting history and considerably more collector interest than the more commonly encountered Featherweight calibers. A scarcely used, boxed 2013 7×57 Featherweight is a particularly appealing modern Winchester for the collector who appreciates more scarce factory chamberings.
