Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed. There are two STD style scope bases mounted to the receiver.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is one piece wood with a raised comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a checkered synthetic buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate wear. The furniture shows light wear with a few pressure dings and drag lines. The LOP measures about 13.5″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is strong with light wear on the receiver and hinged floorplate. There are fairly light handling and operational marks. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 70 was manufactured in 1954 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester during the coveted pre-1964 production era, the Model 70 had already earned its reputation as the “Rifleman’s Rifle”. The mid-1950s examples are particularly sought after for their controlled round feed action and classic pre-64 machining quality.
Chambered in .220 Swift with a 26 inch barrel, this rifle reflects one of the most iconic high-velocity varmint cartridges ever developed. Introduced in the 1930s, the .220 Swift became famous for its blistering velocity and flat trajectory, making it a favorite among long-range varmint shooters. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.
This rifle retains approximately 97 percent of its non-original metal finish, presenting a very clean and cohesive appearance. The refinished furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition with strong structure and attractive presentation. A leather sling is included. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition and stands as a strong example of a 1954 pre-64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in the legendary .220 Swift.
