Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a spring leaf semi-buckhorn U notch with elevator dovetailed into the barrel. The upper tang is drilled and tapped for a peep sight, none installed. 

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stock is two piece smooth walnut, capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, with serrated steel buttplate. The LOP is 13 1/4″ from trigger to buttplate. The stock has been refinished. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Good to Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is some light fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original finish. There is handling and operational wear. There are scratches and light corrosion staining throughout. The action to barrel fit is tight. We did not take this rifle down. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions properly. This rifle has a half-cock safety and its lever safety functions properly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Winchester Model 55 is a distinctive sporting variation of the Model 1894 action, combining the familiar Winchester lever system with a takedown configuration, 24″ barrel, and 2/3-length tubular magazine. This 1930 example is chambered in .30 W.C.F. and features traditional barrel sights, straight-grip walnut stocks, and a serrated steel buttplate. Its takedown design and rifle-length configuration give it a more refined sporting profile than the standard Model 94 carbine.

Introduced in the 1920s, the Model 55 was developed as a streamlined sporting rifle based on the Model 1894 action and was offered in several of Winchester’s popular hunting cartridges. The takedown system allowed the barrel and magazine assembly to be separated from the receiver for easier transport and cleaning, while retaining the proven strength and handling of the Winchester lever-action design. Chambered in .30 W.C.F., this rifle reflects one of the most enduring combinations in American sporting arms.

This rifle retains about 90% of its original finish, with handling and operational wear, scattered scratches, and light corrosion staining. The refinished walnut stocks remain in Good to Very Good condition with scratches and compression dents but no chips or cracks. The bright bore has sharp rifling and rates 9/10 with only light fouling, while the action, half-cock safety, and lever safety function correctly. The barrel-to-action fit is tight, though we did not disassemble the takedown system. Overall, this is a Very Good Winchester Model 55 with strong vintage sporting and collector appeal.
