Our Assessment: The Winchester Repeating Arms Company Model 43 was introduced in the late 1940s as an economical sporting bolt-action rifle designed for varmint and small game hunting. Chambered in .22 Hornet, one of the earliest commercially successful high-velocity varmint cartridges, the Model 43 developed a reputation for accuracy, light recoil, and practical field performance. The .22 Hornet remains a favorite among enthusiasts for its efficiency and mild report when compared to larger centerfire cartridges.

This 1950-produced example presents in excellent overall condition, retaining a remarkable percentage of its original finish with only minor handling marks visible. The walnut stock remains in excellent condition with only light scratches and compression marks and no structural concerns. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling present, while the action functions correctly. The rifle retains its factory open sights and includes provisions for both a receiver peep sight and side-mounted optic installation, enhancing versatility for sporting use. Altogether, this Winchester Model 43 stands as an exceptionally well-preserved example of a classic postwar varmint rifle.
