Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked -“MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN, U.S. OF AMERICA / WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / WINCHESTER TRADE MARK / MODEL 42-410-3IN.CHAM / FULL” the serial number is written twice on the bottom of the barrel extension and receiver. There are opposing arrow marks on the mag tube. There are proof marks on the trigger guard.

Sights / Optics: There is a silver front bead on top of the solid rib. The rib is serrated to prevent glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered walnut with a round pump and english straight grip buttstock. There are minor pressure dents scattered across the stocks, there are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 14? from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition for a C&R.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The action shows very light operational wear. The receiver and barrel have minor scratching. The leading edges of the receiver are wearing. The bolt and lifter have light patina. The screw heads are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Excellent condition as C&R.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage post war Winchester Model 42 .410 bore pump shotgun from 1950, with a factory solid rib. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. This example has a 26? Full choked barrel, checkered stocks with extended slide handle and pistol grip. It is in Excellent condition with flawless mechanics and a beautifully bright bore. This shotgun would make a fine addition to any collection, especially if you want to challenge yourself on the Skeet fields. Please see our photos and good luck! – R.E.
