There is a thin hairline crack on the top of the wrist at the tang. There are a few minor compressions, most noticeable on the belly. There are some scattered light handling marks. The checkering is mostly strong with some light handling wear. The LOP measures 14 1/4? and 13 3/8″ from the front of the triggers to the back of the pad, 12 3/8? and 13 1/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad has some light wear. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2?, drop at heel 2 3/8?. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. There are a few scattered light handling marks. There are a couple of tiny marks through the finish. There are a few spots of erosion under the finish, most noticeable on the bottoms of the barrels by the rib and on the base of the forend iron. There are some more spots of erosion under the finish on the barrrel that are obsurred when the forend is installed. There are a few oil marks, most noticeable on the bottoms of the barrels. There is dishing around some of the screw and pin heads. The markings are mostly clear, though some are light. The serial number has some marks surouding it. Based on the marks and wear on the accompanying barrel, we suspect that the 30″ barrel has original and this 26″ barrel was a later addition. The font of the serial numbers on the barrel sets do not match each other. There is some light finish wear on the edges of the rib. There are light hanldling marks. There is standard operational wear. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety engages automatically when the action is opened. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a 30″ barrel set choked (L) Full and (R) Modified. The barrel has the same marking scheme as the previously described barrel. The serial number matches the gun. The front sight is a white bead fixed to the rib at the muzzle. The front sight has a few small cracks. The bores are bright with no erosion. There is some scattered light wear. The barrel set is in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 21 was their deluxe side by side shotgun, made to compete with the likes of Parker and A.H. Fox in the American shotgun market. The shotgun’s initial production run from 1930 through 1957 yielded approximately 16,000 guns. The standard grade came with select grade walnut stocks and Skeet, Trap, Tournament and Duck grades were also available. This is a standard grade shotgun made in 1937. It has an automatic safety, ejectors, dual triggers, and a checkered pistol grip stock with a splinter forend. This one comes with a 26″ and 30″ barrel set, making for a versatile hunting or clays gun. The shotgun is in Fine condition as refinished with about 97% of its new finish remaining, great bores, and strong mechanics. The Winchester Model 21 shotguns are very collectable, sought after for both their variety of configurations and their quality as a shooter. This shotgun certainly has more years left for the field, but would be a nice addition to a Winchester collection missing the Model 21. Please see our photos and good luck!
