Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1897 is one of the most iconic pump-action shotguns ever produced. Designed by John Browning, this model saw extensive use in both civilian and military applications. It was a favored shotgun for law enforcement, sporting, and military purposes, including trench warfare adaptations during World War I.
This particular example is an early 20th-century production and retains its classic exposed hammer design. While the finish has worn to a patina, the mechanical function appears solid, and the bore remains in excellent condition. This would make a fine addition to any Winchester collection or serve as a great vintage shooter.
Whether you’re a collector or a shooting enthusiast, this Model 1897 offers a great opportunity to own a historic and functional pump-action shotgun. Please see our high-quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
