Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1895 is a historically significant rifle, originally designed by John Browning and introduced as the first Winchester lever-action to feature an internal box magazine. This design allowed it to chamber high-powered, pointed cartridges that were otherwise unsafe in tubular magazines. The 1895 was famously used by Theodore Roosevelt on his African safari and saw military service in the hands of Russian forces during World War I.
This particular example, chambered in .270 Winchester, is a modern reproduction of the iconic design. The .270 Winchester cartridge, introduced in 1925, is one of the most versatile and effective hunting calibers, known for its flat trajectory and long-range performance. The rifle’s 24” barrel provides excellent velocity and accuracy, making it an outstanding choice for big-game hunting. The checkered straight-grip stock with a schnabel forend adds both aesthetic appeal and functionality, while the adjustable buckhorn rear sight complements the classic design.
With 99.99% of its metal finish intact and no evidence of use beyond possible factory test-firing, this rifle is in Excellent, Like New In Box condition. It is an ideal piece for collectors who appreciate the heritage of the Winchester 1895, as well as hunters seeking a modern iteration of this classic design. Whether displayed, collected, or used in the field, this rifle is a true standout. Please see our high-quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
