Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 Angle Eject Saddle Ring Carbine in .45 Colt is a handy, compact lever-action rifle with strong appeal as both a trail gun and a classic Winchester sporting carbine. This example, manufactured between 1992 and 2003, features a 16” barrel, tubular magazine, traditional barrel-mounted iron sights, and a receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Its Angle Eject configuration, rebounding hammer, crossbolt safety, and lever safety reflect the later-production Model 94 updates, while the saddle ring carbine profile and pistol-caliber chambering retain the traditional handling qualities that make these rifles popular with lever-action shooters.
This rifle remains in Very Good overall condition, retaining about 95% of its original blue finish. The metal shows light handling and operational wear with scattered scratches, but the screw heads remain sharp and the markings are clear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, though there is some stubborn lead fouling present; in this writer’s opinion, it rates 9/10. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, though the rifle has not been test fired, and as with all used firearms, a proper cleaning may be desired before regular use.
The two-piece smooth walnut stock set is also in Very Good condition, showing light handling wear, a few small scratches and compression marks, and a very small chip at the toe. The banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered Winchester buttplate give the rifle a clean and traditional carbine appearance, with a 13 1/2” length of pull. Overall, this is a well-preserved Winchester 94 AE Saddle Ring Carbine in the desirable .45 Colt chambering, offering compact handling, strong bore condition, original finish, and broad appeal for the shooter, outdoorsman, or Winchester lever-action enthusiast.
