Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood featuring a metal nose cap, a straight grip, a straight comb and a Winchester hard rubber buttplate. The wood shows mostly light and a few moderate nicks, dings, scratches and some minor handling and storage marks. There are some very shallow patterns of crazing in the finish. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks are in Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is a bit of stubborn fouling in the grooves but no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates a 9 or 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning and wear primarily on the receiver, nose cap and takedown junction. The barrel side of the takedown junction is not serial marked. There are some scattered nicks and handling marks. The screw heads are sharp to lightly tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a soft-sided carrying case.
Our Assessment: The Model 94’s combination of potent firepower in a compact, lightweight, comfortable-to-carry, and quick-shooting package has made it an extremely popular hunting rifle, particularly for white-tailed deer in the dense forests of the Eastern United States, where most game is killed at relatively short distances. As a result, it was the first sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units. This is an Antique Winchester Model 1894 Rifle made in 1897. This rifle is in Very Good condition, showing wear consistent with its age. The bore is in great shape given its age. It should still prove to be a decent shooter once you verify the right ammunition to use. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
