Markings:  The bottom of the receiver is marked “1908039”.  The bottom of the magtube is marked “1908039” with two alignment arrows.  The top of the receiver and barrel have “WP” Proofs. The left side of the Barrel is marked “WINCHESTER / – TRADE MARK – / MADE IN U.S.A.” and “”MODEL 12-12 GA. -2 3/4” CHAM. – / WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / MOD”. The butt plate is marked “WINCHESTER”.

Barrel Length: 28”.

Choke: Fixed, Modified.

Sights / Optics: There is a metallic bead at the muzzle.  The top of the receiver is serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stocks are two piece walnut with smooth semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, checkered hard rubber buttplate, and grooved pump grip.  There are no visible chips or cracks. There is little to no handling wear.  Overall the wood on this shotgun is in Excellent condition for C&R.

Type of Finish: Blued.

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The smooth bore is bright. There is no visible erosion.In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10 for C&R in a shotgun given its age.

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no operation wear. The finish is clean throughout with only a few faint marks that are not worth noting.  There is no corrosion present. The left side of the receiver has a takedown mark where the barrel meets the receiver. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Excellent condition for C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1912, often called the Model 12, stands as a legendary pump-action shotgun that has left a significant mark on firearms history. Introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1912, this shotgun quickly gained popularity for its robust construction, reliability, and smooth action. One of the notable features of the Model 1912 was its internal hammer design, which contributed to its sleek appearance and enhanced durability. This design element also added to its reputation for reliability, making it a preferred choice among hunters, sportsmen, and law enforcement officers. Initially available in various gauges such as 12, 16, 20, and later, 28 gauge, the Model 1912 came in different barrel lengths and configurations to suit different shooting needs, from hunting to clay shooting to home defense. Throughout its production span, which lasted several decades, the Model 1912 underwent numerous improvements and variations to keep up with technological advancements and market demands. Although production of the Model 1912 ceased in 1964, its reputation as a reliable, well-crafted shotgun persists. This Model 12, manufactured in 1961, has been well taken care of for its entire life.  The bore is bright, the action is exceptionally smooth.
