Bore Condition: The bore is mirror-bright. There is no erosion, but there is some lead fouling and scratches the length of the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

There is corrosion freckling at the muzzle and on the barrel. Both the mag tube and action show operational wear. Overall, this shotgun rates a Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 12, introduced in 1912, quickly earned its reputation as “The Perfect Repeater,” becoming one of the most refined and widely respected pump-action shotguns ever produced. By the late 1930s, specialized variants such as the Skeet grade reflected the growing popularity of clay target shooting, with configurations tailored for quick handling and smooth swing. The 28 gauge chambering, paired here with a 2 7/8 inch chamber, represents one of the more refined and lighter recoiling options of the era, offering efficient shot patterns with minimal recoil. By 1938, Winchester had firmly established the Model 12 Skeet as a premium sporting arm, favored by shooters who appreciated both performance and craftsmanship in the field and on the range.
This example has been further enhanced with custom engraving, featuring detailed game scenes of waterfowl and upland birds framed by naturalistic landscapes, adding visual distinction to an already desirable configuration. The refinished metal and wood present well, with strong finish retention and only light to moderate cosmetic wear consistent with handling and use, including some freckling at the muzzle and a faint crack at the wrist. The 26 inch solid rib barrel with Bradley-style sights complements its intended role, while the mirror-bright bore and smooth mechanical function support its continued usability. The presence of a safety lock fixed in the fire position is noted. Altogether, this is a visually striking and mechanically sound Model 12 Skeet that blends Winchester’s classic pump-action design with custom embellishment and enduring field appeal.
