Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 10% of its original metal finish. But retains 98% of the new finish. The balance of the metal shows rub marks from the pump, magazine tube finish loss this part retaining the only bit of original finish. There are surface scratches near the marriage section of the receiver to the barrel. No spots of rust freckling throughout the receiver, barrel, or magazine tube. There is a small sign of rust removed and reblued on the pistol grip cap. The screw heads are sharp and pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good to Fine condition for C&R. Though this model 12 circa 1916 has been redone it was redone correctly and with style. Kudos to the engraver and smiths that did work on this in the past. They left little to no trace of ever being there.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1912, often called the Model 12, stands as a legendary pump-action shotgun that has left a significant mark on firearms history. Introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1912, this shotgun quickly gained popularity for its robust construction, reliability, and smooth action. One of the notable features of the Model 1912 was its internal hammer design, which contributed to its sleek appearance and enhanced durability. This design element also added to its reputation for reliability, making it a preferred choice among hunters, sportsmen, and law enforcement officers. Initially available in various gauges such as 12, 16, 20, and later, 28 gauge, the Model 1912 came in different barrel lengths and configurations to suit different shooting needs, from hunting to clay shooting to home defense. Throughout its production span, which lasted several decades, the Model 1912 underwent numerous improvements and variations to keep up with technological advancements and market demands. Although production of the Model 1912 ceased in 1964, its reputation as a reliable, well-crafted shotgun persists.
This gun in particular is an absolute beauty. The engraving is all done by hand and the styling is very elegantly laid out. The choice piece of wood used to craft the furniture has a depth of grain rarely seen. Thought this is not the original fit and finish of the model twelve this is truly a work of functional art. This gun is set up for a wonderful day of shooting and just clambering to be owned by another gentleman.Though this model 12 circa 1916 has been redone it was redone correctly and with style. Kudos to the engraver and any and all smiths that did work on it in the past. They left little to no trace of ever being there. Its a gorgeous example of breathing new life into an old piece.
