Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1894 was the first commercially available American repeating rifle to be used with smokeless powder. Originally chambered in metallic black powder cartridges, changes in the construction allowed for it to be chambered in the newly available .30-30 and .25-35 Winchester smokeless cartridges. The Model 1894 would go on to be one of the most commercially successful sporting rifles in the United States, with over 7 million rifles being sold by the end of its original production run in 2006.
This example was made by Miroku in Japan, which has made the 1894 under license from Winchester since 2010. While not directly made by Winchester, this rifle still has all the fit and finish people have come to expect. Chambered in the great .25-35 Winchester cartridge, this rifle would make a nice deer rifle or you could have a great time at the range with it. Please see our photos.
