Our Assessment: This Winchester/Miroku Model 1892 Rifle is a modern-production 2011 example chambered in the classic .44-40 W.C.F. cartridge. Built by Miroku in Japan and imported by BACO, it blends traditional Winchester styling with modern manufacturing quality. The 24″ octagon barrel, tubular magazine, capped forend, straight-grip walnut stock, crescent steel buttplate, and barrel-mounted beaded front and elevator-adjustable rear sights give it the appearance and handling character of an early Winchester sporting rifle, while the factory markings and oval “WP” proofs are clear and well preserved.
Condition is Very Good overall, with the rifle retaining about 97% of its original metal finish. The blued and color-case finished surfaces present well, with only light handling wear, light scratching around the loading gate, and some light corrosion noted on the receiver and lever. The screw heads remain sharp, and the markings are clear. The smooth walnut stock set is also in Very Good condition, showing light handling wear and scattered light scratches, but no chips or cracks. Overall, the rifle has the appearance of a lightly used and well-kept modern 1892.
The bore is a strong feature, remaining bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only very light fouling, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, though the rifle has not been test fired. Overall, this is an attractive and desirable Winchester/Miroku Model 1892 in .44-40 W.C.F., offering classic configuration, excellent bore condition, strong remaining finish, and good usability. It should appeal to shooters and collectors who want traditional Winchester styling in a modern, high-quality production rifle, with only minor cosmetic wear and light corrosion keeping it from a higher condition grade.
