Our Assessment: This Winchester Miroku 1885 Low Wall is a modern Japanese-manufactured falling block single-shot rifle produced in 2013 and chambered in the high-velocity .17 WSM cartridge. Built on the classic John Browning-designed 1885 action, it features a 24″ barrel, blued finish, checkered walnut stock set with schnabel forend, semi-pistol grip, straight comb, and rubber buttpad. The rear sight has been removed and replaced with a Talley scope base, indicating a setup oriented toward scoped precision shooting rather than traditional iron-sight use.
Condition is Excellent overall, with the rifle retaining about 98% of its original finish. The metal shows minimal handling or operational wear, with sharp screw heads and clear markings throughout. The walnut stock is also in Excellent condition, showing only light handling wear and no chips or cracks, and retains crisp checkering and a clean overall presentation. The rifle includes its original box, further enhancing its completeness and collector appeal.
The bore is excellent, remaining bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the falling block action functions correctly, though the rifle has not been test fired by us. As with any used firearm, a thorough cleaning and inspection are recommended before use. Overall, this is a highly attractive Winchester Miroku 1885 Low Wall in .17 WSM, offering excellent condition, strong mechanical integrity, modern varmint-oriented chambering, and strong collector or precision shooting appeal, particularly in this near-new presentation.
