Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Lyman brass beaded blade dovetailed to a tall ramped base fixed to the top barrel at the muzzle-end. The rear sight is a Lyman folding “U”-notch sight dovetailed to a quarter-rib at the rear of the top barrel; the notch has a white triangle aiming reference and is fine-adjustable for elevation. The quarter-rib also has bases mounted for the included quick-detach 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered select walnut with a finger-grooved forend, steel-capped pistol grip, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, brown rubber Winchester buttpad and a sling stud in the belly (there is another sling mount fixed to the bottom barrel in front of the forend). A set of QD sling swivels is included. The stocks have a few scattered minor nicks and light handling marks. There is a tiny crack in the right-front edge of the wrist toward the bottom. There is some sort of odd grain or finish defect in the left-front of the wrist. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad, 12 3/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad has light wear and some discoloration. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bores, but there is some stubborn copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly wear on the barrels from the forend and receiver, concealed when the action is closed. The action shows minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear Overall, this rifle rates in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. The single trigger is inertially set. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in a Winchester branded luggage case with keys for the case, QD 1″ rings and QD sling swivels.
Our Assessment: For centuries, hunters have combed this planet in search of trophy game and the great ones did it with a double rifle. Whether on the plains of Africa, or high in the Rockies, there is no more refined, reliable or proven rifle to make your hunting companion than an O/U double rifle. Add the name Winchester to any rifle and it is immediately worthy, here is no exception.
This is a Winchester Grand European Express rifle, chambered for the venerable .30-06 cartridge. The gun has a solid construction with iron sights as well as 1″ QD rings for the optic of your choice. The rifle is beautifully engraved with game scenes on each side and its walnut stocks have beautiful grain. Intriguingly, the barrel set is marked “MADE IN JAPAN”, while there are Italian proof and inspection marks on the barrels and receiver, so it seems the gun is already a world traveler.
