Overall, the stocks are in Very Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of its metal finish. There are some scattered small nicks and minor scratches. Most of the balance is in minor surface oxidation, primarily on the receiver, but with a little on the barrel and magazine tube. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a rebounding hammer and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: For more than a century, Winchester’s Model 1894 has served as the quintessential lever action rifle. The design is still in production today and finds favor with both hunters and those who just like shooting a lever action. This example is a Model 94AE Trapper chambered for 45 Colt and is in Very Good-plus condition. This is a great little brush gun that is short, light and handy, able to accept a scope, and chambered for a cartridge that is great for hunting. It also wouldn’t be the worst thing to have around when you expect to encounter predators. Please see our photos and good luck!

Please forgive any typos, I was educated in California. -Bud
