Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless combines the traditional controlled-round-feed Model 70 action with a weather-resistant stainless configuration intended for demanding hunting conditions. Chambered in .300 Remington Ultra Magnum and fitted with a 26″ barrel, this rifle offers the substantial velocity and energy associated with the RUM family in a classic New Haven-produced Model 70 platform. The synthetic stock, hinged floorplate, jeweled bolt, and optics-ready receiver make it a practical configuration for elk, moose, and other large game where long-range capability and durability are priorities.
This rifle is in Very Good to Fine condition overall, retaining about 96% of its original stainless finish with scattered light scratches, minor handling marks, and a few small freckles of surface corrosion on the barrel, receiver, and bottom metal. The checkered synthetic stock remains in Very Good condition with light handling wear, well-defined checkering, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action and safety function correctly. The bolt jeweling remains vivid and bright. The rifle includes its scope bases, rings, and nylon sling, making this a solid and well-equipped example of the Classic Stainless Model 70 in the powerful .300 Remington Ultra Magnum chambering.
