Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 40% of its original metal finish. The balance shows thinning, finish loss, patina, and freckling throughout, with scattered pitting on the receiver. There is additional handling and operational wear consistent with age and use. The markings remain legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1894 is one of the defining American lever-action rifles, and its pairing with the .30 WCF cartridge became especially important to American sporting history. Introduced in 1895, the .30 WCF was among the earliest commercially successful American smokeless-powder sporting cartridges and would later become universally known as the .30-30 Winchester. Saddle Ring Carbines such as this 1906 example were compact, handy rifles well suited to ranching, hunting, and general field use.

This example retains the character expected of an early working carbine. About 40% of the original metal finish remains, with the balance showing thinning, patina, freckling, and scattered pitting on the receiver. The wood has been sanded and re-oiled and shows scattered compression marks along with two small chips. The bore is semi-bright with well-defined rifling and erosion throughout. The action functions correctly. This is a solid representative example of an early .30 WCF Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine with honest period wear. Please see our photos for a better understanding of the condition and good luck with your bids!-C.M.
