Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA / –WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”, “-WINCHESTER- / -TRADE MARK-“, “MODEL 94-30 W.C.F.”. The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester Proofs. The bottom of the receiver is marked “1451366”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded blade dovetailed to a textured ramped base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight with fine elevation adjustment, dovetailed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered steel Winchester buttplate. The barrel has a flat band behind the front sight. The LOP is 13 1/4″ from trigger to buttplate. The stock has been sanded and refinished. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There are a few spots where the wood has been sanded to leave the metal proud. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Good to Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is some light fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its original metal finish. There is light handling and operational wear. There are scratches and light corrosion staining throughout. The screw heads show tooling but are serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 1894 “Flat Band” Carbine, manufactured in 1947 and chambered in .30-30 Winchester, is a desirable postwar pre-64 C&R lever-action rifle with classic sporting appeal. The 20″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, hooded ramp front sight, elevator-adjustable rear sight, straight-grip walnut stock, checkered steel Winchester buttplate, and flat barrel band behind the front sight all support its traditional Model 94 carbine configuration. The Winchester barrel and receiver proofs, clear model and caliber markings, and visible serial number further contribute to its collector and shooter interest.
The rifle’s bore is a strong point, described as bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling, rating 9/10 in the writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, and the rifle retains both its half-cock safety and lever safety, though it has not been test fired. The metal condition is also respectable, with about 85% of the original blue finish remaining. There is light handling and operational wear, scattered scratches, and light corrosion staining, but the markings remain clear and the tooled screw heads are still serviceable.
The stock is the principal collector caveat, as it has been sanded and refinished, with scattered scratches and compression dents and a few areas where the wood has been reduced enough to leave metal proud. Even so, there are no chips or cracks, and the wood remains in Good to Very Good condition as refinished. Overall, this is a solid and attractive 1947 Winchester Model 94 Flat Band Carbine with a strong bore, functional mechanics, desirable .30-30 chambering, and good remaining original metal finish, with value moderated primarily by the refinished stock, light corrosion staining, and serviceable but tooled screws.
