Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 94 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in .44 Magnum represents a scarce and desirable variant manufactured during a brief production run from 1968 to approximately 1970. This limited run is distinguished by an “M” serial number suffix, signifying a specialized group of Model 94s produced shortly after Winchester reorganized following the significant 1964 design changes. These early “M”-suffix carbines, chambered specifically in .44 Magnum, quickly gained popularity due to their versatility and potent performance in a compact, traditional lever-action format.

Collectors particularly prize this early “M” suffix version for its relative scarcity and historical significance. The 20-inch barrel, saddle ring feature, and the .44 Magnum cartridge make it highly attractive for practical shooters and collectors alike, offering a combination of rugged functionality and powerful stopping performance ideal for hunting medium-sized game at moderate distances. Winchester eventually reintroduced the Model 94 in .44 Magnum during the mid-1980s, but without the distinctive “M” suffix, further enhancing the desirability of these original examples. This rifle, produced in 1968, is classified as a Curio & Relic (C&R), adding further appeal for collectors and enthusiasts interested in rare Winchester lever-action variants.  L.S.
