Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-MODEL 92- WINCHESTER – / -TRADE MARK-“, “25-20 W.C.F.”. The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with Winchester WP Proofs. The top tang is marked “MODEL 92 / -WINCHESTER – / TRADE MARK.REG.U.S.PAT.OFF & FGN”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “746638”.
Barrel Length: 20″ Round, Nominal. 19 7/8″ Measured. The muzzle has been cut and recrowned
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a raised block integral to the barrel. The rear sight is an invertible U/u notch elevator sight with white diamond aim reference, dovetailed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece smooth wood with straight grip, straight comb, steel carbine style buttplate, and banded forend. The saddle ring has been removed from the left side of the receiver. The stocks have been heavily sanded and refinished. There are no chips or cracks. The stocks fit very shy to the metal. The LOP measures 12 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Fair condition as refinished.

Finish Originality: Refinished.
Bore Condition: The bore is somewhat bright and the rifling is defined where not interrupted by erosion. There is light to mild erosion throughout. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 6/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its current metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light to moderate handling wear. There are scattered scratches and light oxidation throughout. There is some erosion under the new finish. The saddle ring has been removed from the left side of the receiver. The sides of the hammer are jeweled. The muzzle has been cut and recrowned. The screw heads show signs of light tooling, but still have strong and serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are legible though shallow on the address. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine represents the working end of John Moses Browning’s landmark lever-action design — trimmed to a 20″ barrel, fitted with a banded forend, and equipped with the saddle ring that made it a practical companion for horsemen, lawmen, and ranchers across the American West and beyond. Where the rifle configuration appealed to the sportsman, the carbine was built for utility, and it found its way into the hands of everyone from Texas Rangers to Mexican Federales to Hollywood prop rooms, where the Model 92 SRC became the definitive visual shorthand for the lever-action carbine throughout the golden age of the Western film. Chambered in .25-20 WCF and manufactured in 1913, this example carries a serial number placing it in the heart of pre-WWI production – a period of consistently high Winchester craftsmanship.
For the collector this is a modified, refinished example best valued as a shootable C&R piece rather than a presentation-grade SRC — but for the buyer who simply wants a genuine Winchester 1892 carbine in .25-20 with a crisp trigger and a smooth action, the bones are all there and this rifle should still prove to be a good shooter.
