Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low-profile blade integral to the slide. The rear sight is a “U” notch integral to the slide. The top of the slide has wavy serrations to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The one-piece grip is black-swirl brown checkered plastic that encloses the backstrap. The grips shows some warping, common to this material. There are a few tiny cracks around the edges. There are a few other scattered minor marks, but the grips remain attractive and better than average. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the slide is serial matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges, mostly at the leading edges of the slide, with other scattered marks and evidence of use. There are spots of faint oxidation on the left of the frame behind the trigger. The screw head is lightly tool marked with a strong slot. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine condition and is a striking example of the gun.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round magazine with a pinky extension floorplate and a portion of a capture document.

Our Assessment: Walther’s original factory was located in Zella-Mehlis in the “Land” (state) of Thuringia. As that part of Germany was occupied by the Soviet Union following World War II, Walther fled to West Germany, where they established a new factory in Ulm. This is a .32 caliber Walther Model PPK made in 1939, near the beginning of WWII, at the factory in Thuringia. It is in Fine condition with roughly 96% original finish remaining. The bore is solid with sharp rifling. Walthers are known for their reliability. That said, they are also collectible. This example, in its high condition, would be a great addition to a Walther collection missing a pre-war commercial PPK. The included portion of a capture document is also fascinating. It indicates that this pistol was captured by a Frederick W. Blumridge of the 12th Armored Division. Please see our photos and good luck!
