Our Assessment: The Walther PPK produced in 1941 at the Thuringia plant is a historically significant German police-issued pistol from the World War II era. Chambered in 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP), the PPK (Polizeipistole Kriminalmodell) was a compact, double-action semi-automatic pistol designed for law enforcement, military officers, and government officials. By 1941, the Walther factory in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, was fully integrated into the German wartime production efforts, producing firearms for the Wehrmacht, SS, and police forces. The Eagle C proof mark on this pistol indicates that it was accepted into service with the German police (Ordnungspolizei), as the “C” stamp was specifically assigned to police-issued sidearms.

The Walther PPK was a highly regarded pistol, known for its reliability, ease of concealment, and smooth double-action trigger. It featured a single-stack 7-round magazine, a fixed barrel that doubled as the recoil spring guide, and a manual safety with a decocker. The police-marked PPKs from this period are particularly interesting because German police units were responsible for internal security, occupation duties, and, in some cases, direct combat operations. Many of these pistols saw extensive use throughout the war and were later captured by Allied forces. Today, a 1941 Walther PPK with Eagle C markings is a desirable collector’s piece, especially if it retains its original finish, matching numbers, and wartime-issued magazine.
