Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is lightly thinning at some edges. There are a few scattered minor marks. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This handgun has a de-cocker that also functions as a slide release. We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This handgun comes in a hinge-lid black plastic Walther case with serial-matching label, manual, and a total of three 8-round magazines.
Our Assessment: The Walther P5 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol developed in the mid-1970s with the German police forces in mind, who sought to replace existing 7.65mm pistols with a modern service sidearm incorporating enhanced safety features and chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. A subsequent bid resulted in the Walther P5 being introduced into service alongside the SIG-Sauer P225 (designated P6 within the West German Federal Police) and the Heckler & Koch P7. The P5 proved to be an accurate and reliable pistol once it was accepted by the police. It was adopted by uniformed officers of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate’s State Police – these pistols were marked ‘BMI’ for the Bundesministerium des Innern – the Federal Ministry of the Interior. This pistol dates from 1981 and is in Fine-plus condition, appearing to have spent more time in its included original serial matching box than out. This piece would make an excellent addition to your Walther collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
