Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a traditional grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The wood on the stock and handguard shows only very minor handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. The metal buttplate has dulled checkering, brown patina, and surface rust. The trap door still has sharp checkering. Overall the stock and handguard are in Very Good to Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is Bright, with well defined rifling and minor visible erosion in the grooves of the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 7/10.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains 90% of its original finish. The receiver, stacking loop, and trigger guard have started to turn brown with patina. The gas tube and lug show the majority of the finish loss as well as the friction surfaces on the bolt and receiver. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition for C&R given its age.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 is known affectionately as “the Garand” after its inventor, John Garand. The rifle would become the first standard-issue semi-automatic infantry rifle in the world. While some countries entered WW2 with limited issued semi-automatic rifles or developed such rifles during the conflict, America was the only nation to enter the war with its Army issuing autoloading rifles on a large scale. General Patton famously referred to the rifle as “the greatest battle implement ever devised”. The Garand was chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a powerful and effective cartridge that provided good range and stopping power. It featured an eight-round en-bloc clip, which was inserted into the rifle’s internal magazine. When the last round was fired, the clip would automatically eject with a distinctive “ping,” signaling to the shooter that it was time to reload. Millions were produced during WWII and hundreds of thousands afterward, seeing use through Korea and into Vietnam. Interestingly, while many other weapons and military gear would see production contracts let to otherwise non-related companies, during WWII production remained with Springfield Armory and Winchester. It was only after the war that production would be contracted out to another gunmaker, Harrington & Richardson, as well as the agricultural equipment maker International Harvester. Today, the M-1 Garand remains a popular choice among collectors, shooters, and enthusiasts, prized for its historical significance, engineering excellence, and timeless design.
