Our Assessment: This U.S.F.A. Lightning Magazine Rifle is an attractive Colt Lightning-style pump-action rifle chambered in .45 Colt, with a classic long-rifle configuration and strong overall condition. The 26″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, blued finish, beaded front sight, spring-leaf rear sight, straight-grip walnut stock, checkered forend, and crescent buttplate give it a traditional 19th-century sporting-rifle profile. With approximately 98% of its metal finish remaining, clear markings, sharp screw heads, and only light handling wear, the rifle presents in Excellent condition overall.

The bore is a strong point, described as bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only minor fouling, rating 9.5/10 in the writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the pump action functions properly, though the rifle has not been test fired. The .45 Colt chambering adds appeal for those interested in traditional revolver-caliber rifles, cowboy-action-style shooting, or historically inspired arms, while the full-length magazine and 26″ barrel enhance the rifle’s period-correct appearance and handling character.

The walnut stock set is also in Excellent condition, showing only light handling wear with no chips or cracks. The checkered forend and crescent buttplate are especially fitting for the Lightning-style design and contribute to the rifle’s overall visual appeal. The absence of a box or accessories slightly limits completeness, but the rifle’s high condition, strong bore, original finish, and distinctive U.S.F.A. manufacture make it a desirable and well-preserved example of a classic pump-action magazine rifle pattern.
