Our Assessment: Ultra Light Arms was started by Melvin Forbes in 1985 and over the course of the last nearly 40 years has become known for their lightweight, immensely accurate rifles. After a short period of being owned by Colt and another endeavor that similarly failed, today the company is known as New Ultra Light Arms. Using innovative techniques with cutting edge materials, Forbes was able to create a rifle with the accuracy of a benchrest rifle at a fraction of the weight. With a very limited number of total rifles made since the company began, Ultra Light Arms rifles are a target rifle and a collector’s piece all wrapped up in one.
This example is a Model 28, called so due to the action only weighing 28 ounces. The entire set up is extremely lightweight for the type of rifle that it is. That, combined with the .338 Winchester Magnum caliber, would make this a great high altitude big game hunting rifle. While there is some wear along the edges, this rifle still has a lot of life left in it. Please see our photos.
