Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This rifle comes in the original Winchester box.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1892 is a lever action repeating rifle designed by famed gun designer John Moses Browning. It was made as a smaller, lighter version of his Model 1886 design, chambered for pistol cartridges rather than rifle cartridges. This would replace the previous Model 1873 and more than a million 1892 would be made between their introduction and 1932. The design is still in production to this very day, its popularity boosted by its use in Western films and television shows.

This example is a Model 1892 Deluce Takedown rifle which was made in 2020 and is chambered in .44-40 Winchester. While Miroku thought it was “Deluxe”, the fine people over at Turnbull Restoration had other thoughts and decided to show us all what the definition of “Deluxe” truly is! This rifle was customized by Turnbull Mfg. circa 2020 and the result is a beauty to behold. They add their signature bone charcoal color case hardening process to the receiver, lever, hammer, butt plate and forend cap. In addition, they refinish the 24? full octagon barrel and full-length magazine tube in classic-era rust blue. With a keen eye for detail, they didn’t forget the small parts, as they charcoal blued those as well. And last but not least, they refinish the grade 5/6 American walnut stocks in a hand-rubbed oil finish to match Winchester’s classic red shading.

Rounding out the 92’s John Browning reversion is their tang safety conversion process, taking this example back to a half-cock safety as it was originally designed over a century ago while getting rid of the cheap looking tang safety.  And, by popular request, they even lighten the lever gun’s mainspring which relieves the stiff cycling and heavy trigger pull of the factory setup. The result: a factory-new Model 1892 that looks AND runs like an original. These guns are made in limited runs and we are not sure when they will be doing another run, now is the time to snatch this one up! Please see our photos and good luck!

Some are hot, some are not, but thankfully most can be shot!
