Year of Manufacture: Ca. 1972

Caliber: .45 ACP

Action Type: Select-Fire, Open-Bolt, Full- or Semi-Automatic carbine fed by detachable magazine

Markings:

Right lower receiver- MAC cobra/stingray logo (Cobray, get it?), “INGRAM M10, CAL 45 AUTO / MILITARY ARMAMENT CORP. / POWDER SPRINGS, GA., U.S.A.”, “1-2000085”, standard SAFE/FIRE markings.

Left lower receiver- standard SEMI/FULL markings.

Top upper receiver- “SAFE” each side of charging handle slot at front, “FIRE” at rear.

Barrel Length: 6″, threaded. 11 1/2″ to front of barrel shroud when installed.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post integral to a base with protective ears fixed to the front of the upper receiver. The rear sight is an aperture sight integral to the backplate of the lower receiver.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is smooth metal welded to the lower receiver with a black polymer backstrap screwed to the rear. The stock is retractable with a shoulder piece that can be folded up over the top of the receiver. There is a collar on the barrel in front of the receiver with a fabric “PULL THE DOT” hand-strap. There is a crack in the backstrap above the mounting screw. The grip otherwise shows light handling wear. The stock has wear from being extended and retracted and a few light marks. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. There is scattered stubborn fouling and infrequent minor erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This machine gun retains about 93% of its metal finish. The finish is generally strong throughout. There is some thinning at edges, scattered light scuffing, and a few scattered light marks. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this machine gun is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this machine gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This machine gun comes in a zipper case with MAC logo on the interior separator panel. The interior has velcro straps and pockets to secure the pistol and magazines (only one magazine included). The single included magazine is nominally a 30-round capacity, we could only get 29 cartridges to fit in the magazine.

Our Assessment: The Ingram MAC-10 is one of the most recognizable submachine guns of the 20th century, earning a place in both military and popular culture. Designed by Gordon Ingram and produced by Military Armament Corporation in Powder Springs, Georgia, the MAC-10 offered a compact, high-rate-of-fire platform chambered in .45 ACP. Powder Springs guns are the most desirable, representing the earliest and most authentic production.

This example, serial number 1-2000085, is a fully transferable machine gun registered with the NFA. It features a 6” barrel with a threaded barrel shroud, giving it the distinctive profile of a MAC. The dual selector controls provide straightforward operation. It can be used as a machine pistol with the stock retracted, but the stock can also be deployed for more controllable shoulder-fire.

For collectors, this is an opportunity to acquire a genuine Powder Springs MAC-10 transferable on a Form 3 or Form 4 after ATF approval, with its markings intact and condition well-preserved. For shooters, it remains one of the most compact and controllable ways to unleash .45 ACP firepower at full-auto. Given its provenance, NFA status, and cultural cachet, this gun represents a rare blend of investment-grade collectability and practical range enjoyment. It even comes with a neat carry case which appears to be a genuine MAC accessory. Please see our photos and good luck!
