Overall Condition: This flintlock rifle is in Very Good Condition. The metal surfaces have minor scratching and handling wear. There are some minor spots of patina on the barrel. When the hammer comes forward, it bumps up against the lock plate face, coming to rest at a slight offset angle. It is unclear if this is intended, as there is some wear to the lock plate where the hammer arm touches. The hammer moves smoothly and locks in the cocked position. The frizzen face is worn from use but it opens and closes normally. The trigger and set trigger function.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: 1x English Gun flint, 1x Flash hole cleaning jag, 1x wood and brass ramrod stored under the barrel.
Our Assessment: Thom Frazier is a Minnesota based gunsmith who has built rifles, fowlers and pistols since 1978. His specialty has been on serving reenactors and hunters who focus on recreating the mid-18th to mid-19th century. By sticking with quality parts, and period correct styles he has maintained the highest level of value in colonial American firearms. This flintlock has a 1760-1770 era lock made in the style of John Twigg, who was an 18th century gunsmith famous for his fowling guns, sporting rifles, and pistols. It also has a ‘White Lightnin’ stainless vent liner which aids in fast ignition of the powder. This Virginia Longrifle would fit perfectly into any contemporary longrifle collection.
